neighbourbase

neighbourbase is an online peer to peer marketplace and sharing community. It lets you Share, Rent, Sell or Give your idle resources to your neighbours. By promoting the spirit of collaborative consumption, it helps build neighborhood communities, saves you money, makes you money and reduces your carbon footprint.

Peer to peer marketplace- An online marketplace that lets users borrow, rent, sell or give away things that they aren't using anymore, to other people in their communities.

Peer to peer sharing community - "An online community that is built on the principle that access is greater than ownership". People living in the same neighborhood get resources they need (Kitchen Appliances, Books, CDs. etc) from other people in their community, as opposed to buying them from the market.
Peer to peer sharing encourages you to borrow from your neighbours or people in your community and lend to them. List items you want to share on neighbourbase. It helps you get to know your neighbours better and build relationships through mutual sharing of resources.
Peer to peer renting lets you make money from your idle resources. List them on neighbourbase and rent them out to your neighbours when you aren't using them. For example-if you own a vacuum cleaner that you use only about once a month, list it and rent it out when you are not using it.
When you decide you don't want something anymore, list it for sale on neighbourbase. Second hand sales are more trusted in neighborhood communities. You stand a better chance of selling it, or getting a good deal if you are buying.
Nothing feels better than giving something away that you aren't using, to someone who has a need for it. De-clutter your houses by listing those things you want to give away on neighbourbase

When you aren't using something that you own, it is an Idle Resource. For example, you own a bicycle and use it only twice a week; the time that you aren't using the bicycle, it is an idle resource.

These idle resources can be rented out or lent to other users when you aren't using them. If something you own has been idle for a long time and you don't plan to use it anymore, you can even consider selling it or giving it away.

Rating and Review

Whenever an exchange is made, neighbourbase encourages both the owner as well as the user who requests the product to review and rate both the product as well as each other.

Reviews are a way of sharing your experience after an exchange takes place. Writing a review and providing a rating to a user provides valuable feedback for other users to go by when they decide to enter into an exchange for a particular product with the user.

Reviews and ratings are displayed on your profile and serve as a history of your interactions with other users. This helps build trust as well as provides a way for other members of the neighbourbase community to make informed decisions about entering into an exchange.

Ratings are a way of expressing your satisfaction level for a transaction. You rate the borrower, lender and the product on a scale of 1 thru 5 (one star to five stars) where 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

Every request when it is completed has an option for providing your feedback/review. It is mandatory that the transaction is done through the neighbourbase platform for you to provide this feedback.

Write your review and provide your rating for both the user as well as the product in the space provided. Keep the review short, and make sure you follow the review guidelines.

Please remember that the neighbourbase community relies heavily on accurate and honest reviews. We will alter or remove any reviews that are reported for abuse or fail to comply with the review guidelines.

We don't allow users to remove reviews. In the event that a review contains abuse or objectionable content, report the review and if it contains abuse we will ensure such reviews are taken down during our periodic review process.

Sharing Best Practices

The first step towards borrowing or renting something from a neighbour is initiating a request on neighbourbase. Check out the owner's ratings and reviews to see if you really want to initiate a request with this user.

While initiating a request send a small personal message along with the request that will help the owner decide whether to rent or share the product with you.

If the owner wants any more additional information before he accepts the request to rent or share the product with you, make sure you share these details with him.

Once the owner agrees to rent/share the product with you, agree on a time and place to meet to make the exchange.

If you are making the exchange with a complete stranger, neighbourbase encourages you to meet in a public place such as a neighborhood coffee shop in the interest of safety.

Ensure that you are on time for the exchange and polite during the interaction, don't forget to set up a return date as well. Update this return date on neighbourbase and we will remind the borrower to return the product.

The neighbourbase community is built on trust; someone agrees to share something with you, with the greatest levels of trust. Uphold this trust by treating the product that you borrow or rent like your own. For example, if you borrow something like a barbecue, make sure you clean it thoroughly before returning it.

Return the product that you borrow in the same condition you got it. Make sure you adhere to the return date and set up a meeting on that day for the return. Be on time to return the product. We also encourage you to ask for a review as this helps build trustworthiness within the neighbourbase community.

neighbourbase believes that honest communication helps build a stronger community. There are times when something you borrow or rent from someone breaks while you are using it. Be completely transparent with the owner in the event of any damage or breakage, don't try to cover it up. Offer to replace, repair or compensate the owner for the damage. It is up to the owner to accept this offer or not. Owners must also keep in mind that damage or breakage may be a result of the general wear and tear that occurs during a products life and not the renter/borrower's fault entirely and be fair in their request for compensation.

Honest communication is very important to the neighbourbase community. In the interest of this we urge all users to review and rate each other as well as the product after an exchange takes place. Reviews help users build a reputation in the neighbourbase community. These reviews help both the recipient of the review as well as all the members of the neighbourbase community.

While writing the reviews we encourage you to make sure your review is concise and sticks to the facts. Keep in mind that your reviews cater to both the recipient as well as the neighbourbase community as a whole. Try to be as polite as possible while writing a review. In the event that you have a bad experience, we strongly discourage any verbal abuse or personal insults, try and explain your position through a well worded review.

We would like the neighbourbase community to be as transparent as possible and hence would like to refrain from editing or deleting reviews. However, in the event that a review contains abusive language and is reported by the recipient, we will either edit it or take it down and send a warning to the reviewer. Multiple cases of verbally abusive behavior may lead to a users account being suspended.

neighbourbase reserves the right to edit or take down any review that we feel does not comply with the above review guidelines.
